ATV's Story

JANUARY 1982

Started by Roxie Ellis and Pam Higgins, the agency began as the Alternatives for Battered Women. It grew up out of the Loveland Interfaith Task Force made up of nine local churches, and was organized by a handful of people who saw the need for a support group for battered women in the City of Loveland. During the first year of being open, ten families were served escaping violence. The first board meeting was on January 13, 1982. Pam and Roxie were the Board President and Vice President respectively.

AUGUST 1982

Alternatives for Battered Women was incorporated and by September was offering services to the community.

1988

The Transitional Living Center was purchased.

MARCH 1989

The name was changed to Alternatives to Violence.

OCTOBER 2016

ATV’s SafeHouse opened. It is an 8-room, 22-bed facility.

ATV now provides services to hundreds of adults and children through our outreach programs, as well as  emergency shelter.
